Yes, parenting a sensitive child can come with extra challenges but it can also have so many blessings.
YES, PARENTING A SENSITIVE CHILD CAN COME WITH EXTRA CHALLENGES BUT IT CAN ALSO HAVE SO MANY BLESSINGS.
If you have a sensitive child you may be struggling with some of these:
- Their emotional outbursts or meltdowns?
- Their dislike of certain clothes, foods, places, or people?
- Maybe their struggle to go to sleep or stay asleep at night?
- Are they challenged by changes, big or small?
- Perhaps you’re worn out with their hyperactive energy or their clinginess to you?
My sensitive kids are my greatest teachers
Parenting my two highly sensitive children, and my eldest also has Sensory Processing Disorder, has been the greatest learning both personally and professionally. My sensitive kids have not only helped me learn more about my own sensitivity and needs, but also how to accept and support their sensitive needs too.
As their parents, you know they have some beautiful qualities as part of their sensitive essence; their loving nature, their creativity, their mature perceptions of the world and people. Yet you may not get to see many of these if they are struggling to calm their big feelings and cope with our very overstimulating world. You may be so worn out with their challenges, that you’re finding it hard to enjoy and appreciate them. This is OK. The fact you are here is a testament to your love and commitment to them. You need support too. This parenting role is hard!

How can I help?
As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child”. Sensitive kids thrive, even more than their peers without this trait, when their sensitivity is prized and supported. So let’s make their village as nurturing and empowering as your kid deserves.
Our kids also flourish when we are stronger. Empower yourself by connecting with other parents who understand what it’s like to raise a Sensitively Strong child in our gatherings/community.
If you’re yearning to have a calmer home, understand how you can empower yourself and your child and actually enjoy the best of them, then let me support you. Whether it’s the Sensitively Strong Kids course, private sessions, gatherings, or connecting with their school, you are not alone in this.

Training & Experience
My undergraduate degree in Psychology is from University College Dublin after which I completed a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology at University of Wales, Bangor. Following some years of working in the field of mental health, I trained in Counselling and Psychotherapy at IICP College. I am a fully accredited Psychotherapist (Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and founded my own private practice 7 years ago.
I completed a Diploma in Therapy Training & Education and have also lectured for trainee and graduate psychotherapists and psychologists in Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, and IICP College. I was also an Editor while on the Editorial Committee for the Irish Journal of Counselling & Psychotherapy for a number of years. My skill for creating and developing both individualised programmes and the courses within the Sensitively School are based upon my lecturing, facilitating, and editorial experiences, as well as over 15 years working in mental health in both community projects and organisations such as St. John of God.
