BEING A SENSITIVE MOTHER IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH, NOT SHORTCOMING!

Are you a mom struggling with any of these:

Feeling constantly overwhelmed and exhausted?
Finding it hard to fully enjoy motherhood, perhaps wondering why it feels harder for you compared to other mothers?
Feeling anxious and worried about your kid, whether you doing the right thing or will mess them up some how?
Can’t seem to stop your brain going; like the mental load of motherhood is never ending?
Finding it hard to rest or sleep?
Struggle with the level of noise/types of noises, smells, business/fast paced life of motherhood, or feeling touched out?
Strive for routine and predictability but the constant changes and unpredictability unsettles you?
Feel emotionally flooded and struggle to stay calm when your kids are emotionally charged e.g. tantrums/meltdowns, crying, shouting, whining etc.
Feel guilty for your own emotional outbursts when it all gets too much for you?
Struggle with boundaries; saying No to your kids or giving in cause you empathise with their perspective or just can’t take one more battle?
Find it hard to ask for or receive help?
Feel lonely and isolated in your motherhood?

Becoming a Sensitively Strong Mama

I’m a highly sensitive mother and know just how overwhelming this season of our lives can feel. Sensitive motherhood certainly shattered any remaining hallmark picturesque ideas I had of this experience and instead felt like a sudden shock to my nervous system. Learning about my sensitivity however, enabled me to understand the reasons certain elements of this experience was so challenging for me and to let go of any shame and guilt I was holding. Knowing about my high sensitivity trait, I started accepting my sensitive needs and adjusting my life to support these so my children reaped the benefits of my sensitive strengths as a mother. You too can start to feel calmer, more confident, and enjoy motherhood as a highly sensitive mother.

MY STORY

How can I help?

As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child”. This is especially true for sensitive mothers as we are wired for deep connection and thrive when we have positive supports. This is amplified when you have other sensitive mothers in your village, that innately understand and accept your sensitive experience of motherhood.

Whether it’s the Sensitively Strong Mama course, a private consultation with me, or connecting with other sensitive mothers in our Sensitively Strong Community, you are not alone mamma and you can start to learn ways to live a Sensitively Strong Motherhood.

Training & Experience

My undergraduate degree in Psychology is from University College Dublin after which I completed a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology at University of Wales, Bangor. Following some years of working in the field of mental health, I trained in Counselling and Psychotherapy at IICP College. I am a fully accredited Psychotherapist (Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and founded my own private practice 7 years ago.

I completed a Diploma in Therapy Training & Education and have also lectured for trainee and graduate psychotherapists and psychologists in Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, and IICP College. I was also an Editor while on the Editorial Committee for the Irish Journal of Counselling & Psychotherapy for a number of years.  My skill for creating and developing both individualised programmes and the courses within the Sensitively School are based upon my lecturing, facilitating, and editorial  experiences, as well as over 15 years working in mental health in both community projects and organisations such as St. John of God.
